Its main objectives are:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"327\" data-end=\"1746\">\n<li data-start=\"327\" data-end=\"519\">\n<p data-start=\"329\" data-end=\"519\"><strong data-start=\"329\" data-end=\"374\">Recovery of priority habitats and species<\/strong>, such as <em data-start=\"384\" data-end=\"404\">Posidonia oceanica<\/em> and underwater reef systems, with particular attention to key species like <em data-start=\"480\" data-end=\"498\">Corallium rubrum<\/em> and <em data-start=\"503\" data-end=\"518\">Pinna nobilis<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"521\" data-end=\"736\">\n<p data-start=\"523\" data-end=\"736\"><strong data-start=\"523\" data-end=\"564\">Holistic and ecosystem-based approach<\/strong>, considering the entire marine ecosystem in its biotic and abiotic components in order to apply Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) to mitigate anthropogenic and climate impacts.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"738\" data-end=\"956\">\n<p data-start=\"740\" data-end=\"956\"><strong data-start=\"740\" data-end=\"769\">Long-term experimentation<\/strong>: the project\u2019s 10-year duration allows verification of the recovery of ecosystem functionality, with the possibility to intervene over time, thus ensuring the success of the restoration.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"958\" data-end=\"1268\">\n<p data-start=\"960\" data-end=\"1268\"><strong data-start=\"960\" data-end=\"997\">High-level scientific partnership<\/strong>, a model of collaboration among different Italian research institutions to create the multidisciplinary scientific synergy needed to ensure interdisciplinary integration across various disciplines and advanced technologies for monitoring and managing marine restoration.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1270\" data-end=\"1553\">\n<p data-start=\"1272\" data-end=\"1553\"><strong data-start=\"1272\" data-end=\"1321\">Innovative technologies and predictive models<\/strong>, which\u2014through the use of supercomputers and advanced numerical models\u2014can simulate ecosystem dynamics (Digital Twin of the Oceans) in response to various stressors and develop an early warning system for environmental risks (EWS).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1555\" data-end=\"1746\">\n<p data-start=\"1557\" data-end=\"1746\"><strong data-start=\"1557\" data-end=\"1613\">A significant contribution to international research<\/strong>, building on previous experiences and positioning RENOVATE as a framework and model for future marine restoration efforts worldwide.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1748\" data-end=\"1967\">In summary, RENOVATE aims to restore the ecological functionality of marine habitats through an interdisciplinary and sustainable approach, serving as a reference for marine environmental management in Italy and Europe.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div><div id='av-masonry-1' class='av-masonry and likely in Europe.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"364\" data-end=\"699\">Its main objectives are the recovery of the functions and ecosystem services lost as a result of the expansion of the Civitavecchia Port Hub, with a particular focus on restoration and mitigation interventions targeting specific marine habitats and species of ecological relevance, through an integrated and multidisciplinary approach.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"723\" data-end=\"772\"><strong data-start=\"727\" data-end=\"772\">Recovery of priority habitats and species<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"776\" data-end=\"1041\">The restoration interventions focus on two priority habitats: 1120* (<em data-start=\"845\" data-end=\"865\">Posidonia oceanica<\/em>) and 1170 (submarine rocky formations and reefs), with particular attention to two key species: <em data-start=\"962\" data-end=\"980\">Corallium rubrum<\/em> (red coral) and <em data-start=\"997\" data-end=\"1012\">Pinna nobilis<\/em> (a large bivalve mollusk). The project includes the testing of innovative techniques to ensure the regeneration of these habitats, not only preserving but also enhancing biodiversity.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1202\" data-end=\"1247\"><strong data-start=\"1206\" data-end=\"1247\">Holistic and ecosystem-based approach<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1251\" data-end=\"1472\">RENOVATE adopts an ecosystem-based approach that considers the marine ecosystem as a whole. Experimental field and laboratory activities are supported by autonomous monitoring systems and state-of-the-art technologies\u2014such as autonomous underwater vehicles\u2014that allow data collection even under difficult conditions.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3914\" data-end=\"3960\"><strong data-start=\"3918\" data-end=\"3960\">Contribution to international research<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3964\" data-end=\"4164\">RENOVATE draws inspiration from previous projects, such as the environmental restoration of Giglio Island after the Costa Concordia shipwreck, and builds on the results of LIFE and Horizon projects.
