Geophysics) is a public research institution with an international mission. The Institute operates and develops its activities within the European Research Area (E.R.A.) and internationally, with a primary focus on basic and applied research in the fields of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Oceanography (physical, chemical, and biological)<\/li>\n<li>Marine Geophysics and Geology<\/li>\n<li>Experimental and Exploration Geophysics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">OGS uses its expertise in Earth, Marine, and Polar Sciences to contribute not only to increasing and disseminating scientific knowledge but also to the practical resolution of environmental, economic, and social challenges, in line with the National Research Program (PNR) and with the strategic objectives set by the European Union and international environmental policies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using its research vessel\u00a0<strong>OGS Explora<\/strong>\u00a0and other strategic and high-level infrastructures, OGS works to safeguard and enhance natural resources and the environment, to assess and prevent geological, environmental, and climate risks, and to promote scientific knowledge and culture.
