in Situ Restoration

Based on the abundance of material recovered through the Bycatch Program, the objective of this activity is to restore existing hard substrates and generate new colonies on artificial substrates, recovering the ecosystem services that have been lost. This will be achieved by using the largest possible number of species associated with Habitat 1170 that are worthy of protection, among which Cystoseira spp. is particularly important, along with Corallium rubrum, gorgonians, and all the species considered throughout the project activities.

The reintroduction techniques must take into account the size and weight of the coralligenous rocks recovered from fishing discards. For the reimplantation activities, different techniques for attaching the recovered coralligenous material will be evaluated, depending also on the size of the rock fragments collected.
