AdSP

Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Centro Settentrionale (AdSP)

The Port System Authority of the Northern-Central Tyrrhenian Sea is the public body that manages the ports of Civitavecchia, Fiumicino, and Gaeta, as well as the governing authority of the corresponding port territory, whose jurisdiction extends across much of the Lazio coastline. It is headquartered in Civitavecchia and, like the other 14 Italian Port System Authorities, is a national entity with a special regulatory status, endowed with administrative, organizational, regulatory, budgetary, and financial autonomy.

In accordance with Article 6 of Law 84/1994 and various Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) decrees related to the expansion of the Civitavecchia Port Hub, the Authority monitors numerous environmental matrices (air quality, coastal marine environment, meteorology, wave climate, acoustic climate).

Within these responsibilities, it developed the RENOVATE project (Ecosystem-Based Approach to the Assessment and Experimentation of Compensation and Mitigation Actions in the Marine Environment: the Case of the Civitavecchia Port Hub) whose main objective is the recovery of marine ecosystem functions and services directly or indirectly impacted by the expansion of the Civitavecchia Port Hub.

Role of the Port System Authority (AdSP)

Within the project, from an experimental perspective, the AdSP will directly contribute by carrying out the following activities:

  • In-situ observational measurements in reference (baseline) areas, whose data will be available for the entire duration of the project and will be used to calibrate numerical models supporting the Early Warning System
  • Deployment of anti-trawling barriers and buoy fields to protect Habitat 1120*
  • Deployment of artificial reefs and buoy fields to protect Habitat 1170
  • Support for dissemination activities related to research outcomes
  • Co-organization of communication events, conferences, press releases, social media communications, and web pages
  • Compensation activities for Posidonia oceanica: ecosystem restoration through transplantation of cuttings on prefabricated modules and recovery of damaged or missing patches
